Blackmagic Design Resolve Editing Training gets lab upgrade with eGPUs

September 2020 – CCS is please to announce that Blackmagic Design has supported our efforts as an Academic Training Center for the Resolve tools, with the donation of several eGPU hardware accellerators.

As the video processing and content creation efforts are very compute intensive, and the baseline platform for running the BMD Resolve software is typically not the same as the configuration of you average student laptop, Blackmagic Design donated several external GPU products to help the Mac based students be able to work on the projects and run the software.

“We are having the students do real projects for broadcast using real 4K source data” said Roadway Media Director of Production Cristian Mendez, “and having access to the horsepower needed to process the visual effects, color correction and rendering is generally outside the scope of the budgets for the students.  This allows those who are still deciding on the career path an opportunity to learn the tools, without wait time frustrations, and make progress towards establishing their careers, without financial impact.”

The eGPU units are available at the socially distance production lab for CCS for students scheduled use.
